Ship a full or shared container to Guyana
With a full container (FCL), a 20ft or 40ft container is yours alone. It is sealed in the UK and opened at customs in Georgetown, ideal for a house move, a vehicle with furniture, or business stock. With a shared container (LCL), your goods travel alongside other customers' cargo and you pay only for the space they take, which suits a few large items or a room's worth of belongings.
As a rough guide, a 20ft container holds a one- to two-bedroom home and a 40ft container holds a three- to four-bedroom home or a car plus household goods.
How it works
- Get a quote. Tell us what you are shipping, your UK postcode and the delivery address in Guyana through our contact form or on 020 3086 7592.
- Loading or collection. We bring an empty container to your address for an FCL load, or collect your items for a shared container. You can also drop off at our Barking warehouse.
- Export and sailing. We prepare the export documents and the container sails from a UK port such as Southampton, Felixstowe or London Gateway.
- Arrival in Georgetown. The container is discharged at the Georgetown wharves on the Demerara River and cleared through customs.
- Delivery. We deliver to your door or you collect from the wharf.
Shipping times to Georgetown
Container shipping from the UK to Guyana usually takes 4 to 6 weeks door to door. Sailings to Guyana often call at other Caribbean ports on the way, so the exact time depends on the route, the schedule and customs clearance. We give you an estimate and the sailing date when you book.
Where we deliver in Guyana
We deliver throughout Georgetown, the East Bank and East Coast of Demerara, West Demerara, Linden, New Amsterdam and the wider Berbice area, and the Essequibo Coast. Deliveries to Bartica and inland areas can be arranged on request.
Guyana customs and re-migrants
Containers are cleared by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA). You will need a detailed packing list with values, a copy of your passport and your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). Duty and VAT may be charged depending on the goods.
If you are moving back to Guyana for good, you may qualify for duty concessions under the re-migrant scheme, which can cover household and personal effects and a vehicle. Apply through the Diaspora Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before you ship, and tell us when you book.
Good to know for Guyana
Many of our Guyana customers ship building materials, tools and generators along with household goods. These are fine to pack, but list every item and its value on the packing list, as GRA inspects mixed loads closely.
What you can and can't pack
Furniture, appliances, clothing, tools, building materials and non-perishable food are all fine. Do not pack firearms or ammunition, illegal drugs, flammable items such as fuel or gas bottles, counterfeit goods or perishable food. Medicines, plants, seeds and meat products need permits.
