Container Shipping to Jamaica: Costs, Sizes & How It Works

Shipping a container to Jamaica is the most cost-effective way to move a large volume of goods — whether you're relocating, sending furniture and appliances to family, or shipping stock for a business. Zan Shipping has been moving containers from the UK to Jamaica for over 20 years. Here's how it works, what it costs, and how to decide between a full container and a shared one.

Full Container (FCL) vs Shared Container (LCL): Which Do You Need?

There are two ways to ship a container to Jamaica:

  • Full Container Load (FCL) — you book the whole container (20ft or 40ft) for your own goods, with no one else's items sharing the space.

  • Shared / consolidated container (LCL) — your goods travel alongside other people's shipments in the same container, and you only pay for the space you use.

FCL makes sense if you're shipping furniture for a full house move, a vehicle plus household goods, or a large volume of commercial stock. A shared container is usually the better option if you have a handful of boxes, appliances or barrels — you get container-level protection without paying for space you don't need.

Container Sizes: 20ft vs 40ft

We offer both 20ft and 40ft steel shipping containers. A 20ft container typically suits a one-to-two bedroom household move, while a 40ft container gives you roughly double the capacity — enough for a full house of furniture and appliances, or a mixed commercial and personal shipment. Our team can help you work out which size fits what you're sending.

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Container to Jamaica?

Container shipping costs depend on the container size, whether you're booking a full or shared container, your collection location in the UK, and any oversized or specialist items. Because of this, we don't publish a flat container rate the way we do for barrels (from £95) — get in touch for a tailored quote, and we'll talk you through the most cost-effective option for what you're sending.

How Long Does Container Shipping to Jamaica Take?

Like our barrel shipments, containers to Jamaica travel via Kingston Freeport Terminal. Door to door, you're typically looking at a similar timeframe to barrel shipping — a few weeks in transit once your container is collected and loaded, plus customs clearance, which we handle on your behalf.

What Can You Ship in a Container to Jamaica?

Containers are the practical option for larger or bulkier items that don't fit in a barrel, including:

  • Furniture and household appliances

  • Multiple barrels, boxes and crates shipped together

  • Vehicles, alongside other goods

  • Commercial stock and equipment

  • Building and construction materials

As with barrel shipments, standard restrictions apply on perishable food, alcohol, tobacco, firearms and live animals — check with us before you finalise your load if you're unsure what's allowed.
