The Nigeria Immigration Service, acting on a directive from Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, launched a special passport intervention exercise running from 7 to 19 September in those two cities, with Aberdeen and Cardiff to follow later in the month. On just the second day alone, 422 applicants were processed and enrolled, with passports from day one already dispatched and expected in hand by the 10th.

Officials say the initiative followed consultations with the Nigerian High Commission and community representatives across the UK, and the message to eligible Nigerians has been simple: they are "encouraged to take advantage of the exercise."
